Task1
The channel that I am going to pick is the BBC.The history of BBC television idents begins in the early 1950s, when the BBC first displayed a logo between programmes to identify its service. As new technology has become available, these devices have evolved from simple still black and white images to the sophisticated full colour short films seen today. With the arrival of digital services in the United Kingdom, and with them many more new channels, branding is perceived by broadcasters to be much more important, meaning that idents need to stand out from the competition.
The brand is identified over the years by the writing which is on the ident which is BCC and the things that have remained the same over the years is the writing which is BBC and it has been on every ident since 1964, and the things that have evolved over the years is the colour because in 1964 the colours were just black and white but technology today you can have a range of colours which you can choose from also they can now make idents move however in the olden days it would just have the ident on the channel and nothing would be moving on the ident it would just be still also back in the day they used to always had a picture of Earth but nowadays they have pictures of anything.
BBC’s remit should be the BBC's primary outlet for major UK and international events and it should reflect the whole of the UK in its output. A very high proportion of its programmes should be original productions.
The ident plays at the start of a programme and it is only visible during the start of a programme but sometimes there are films being played and they will be played at the start and the end but during programmes and documentary’s there will be adverts which will have the ident in and the adverts are shown around about every 30 minutes so the ident will be visible around about every 30 minutes.
The BBC currently has 13 channels from BBC1 to BBC America and there is a theme across the idents because on every ident there is always the writing that is either always on the ident or it pops up which is BBC but a lot of things has changed over the years such as the colour and now the ident can move unlike in the olden days the ident just stayed there but however now the ident can move like an animation.

Task 2
Comparing 2 Idents
I think that all of the idents represent the channel that they are made for however some represent there channel more than overs such as the BBC2 ident because it clearly shows the channel name on the ident which is similar to the BBC THREE ident because on the BBC THREE ident they also show the name of the channel they represent.
I think that both idents are successful because they both show what channel they represent because they both have the channel name and channel number on the ident and another reason why the ident is successful is because the target audience is aged from around 16-34 year olds and I think that it appeals to the target audience very well because of the flying cars and flying people and it is just something different from today and something interesting to watch.
However I think that the channel 4 ident is not as successful as BBC THREE and BBC2 because the channel name is not shown in the ident all that is shown is the channel number which is channel 4 however it is a bit difficult to know what channel the ident represents because is there was someone who has not seen a channel 4 idents before they might not know what the idents represents because there is blocs moving and coming together to make the number 4 but some people could not make out what it is and I think that the ident should have the channel name in the ident.
